jQuery 2.0, less is more

jQuery version 2.0 has just been released and with it a death knell for IE 6, 7 and 8.

As of version 2.0, jQuery will no longer support those notorious older versions of IE we all love to hate.

The result is a more streamlined jQuery release with a smaller file size.

There have also been some refinements to the custom build system for smaller custom versions.

There are also a slew of bug fixes and smaller updates in the release. Have a read of the jQuery blog article for more details.

For those of us who still need support for those decrepit web browsers, the 1.x branch is still available and in active development.
