Oppa! Psy breaks YouTube.
Back in June I wrote a blog about the hidden cost of the most watched YouTube video of all time. That video, is of course; Gangnam Style.
My blog showed an infographic depicting the time spent watching Gangnam Style on YouTube and what could have been achieved in that time - which was pretty amazing really.
The total amount of time spent watching the video in June 2014, was 140 million hours. And in that time, 20 Empire State Buildings or 4 Great Pyramids of Giza could have been built. Oppa the eff have us humans become?
But in a round about way, this video has in fact created something, other than just bad dance moves, that being; an upgrade of YouTube's system.
"We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer" (2,147,483,647 views), the company said
"But that was before we met Psy."
YouTube and Google have marked the occasion with a special feature on the original video. If you go to the Gangnam Style video on YouTube and put your cursor over the 2 billion play count, the number counts backwards, then forward, in rapid succession.
