About Us Pages in Web Design

The about us page is one of the most important pages on your website, but why is it often forgotten about? The about us page is not a standard content page so don’t treat it like one. It is one of the most overlooked pages in web design and often ranks as one of the highest hit pages, especially for start-ups or brands which are not as widely recognised. The about us pages gives you a chance to be creative, honest and fun about who your business is. If a user goes to the about page it means they are interested in your business and the products or services you offer, they are not yet a lead however they couldn’t be closer. This is your chance to impress, educate and excite them about your business!

The about page is usually one of the last pages to get designed and it is too easy to run out of creative flare when designing this page and grouping it in the “standard content” bucket, which it is not. Throwing together a few paragraphs about the business and a picture is not going to convert users to a lead from this page, it is only going to bore and un-inspire them. Try using info graphics, interesting fonts and quotes to break up the messages. Adding a call to action is also important, lead the user into where they are to go next. The about us page should take around the same amount of time as the home page, as chances are a user will land on this page before the home page.
